ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – The two finalists of the French Open, Ash Barty and Marketa Vondrousova, achieved the same result on Thursday at Adelaide International: a dominant victory for the world’s number 1.
The Australian beat Vondrousova 6: 3, 6: 3 on Memorial Drive and advanced to the semi-finals.
The last time the players met at Roland Garros in the final, Barty won her first Grand Slam title. Vondrousova hasn’t won a set against Barty in four games.
Barty will next play American Danielle Collins, who beat Belinda Bencic 6-3 and 6-1.
Barty lost her first game at Brisbane International last week, but has steadily improved in Adelaide.
“It’s just a step-by-step sequence of time on the court and time in this competition mode,” said Barty.
Aryna Sabalenka faces Dayana Yastremska in the second semi-final on Friday.
Yastremska defeated Donna Vekic 6: 4: 6: 3, Sabalenka defeated Simona Halep with 6: 4: 6: 2.
Halep won the French Open 2018 and Wimbledon 2019. She reached the Australian Open final in 2018.
