Dr. Birx suggests that the United States response may reduce the rate of coronaviruses

Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus Task Force coordinator, said on Wednesday that novel predictions of the coronavirus infection rate suggest that deadly, highly contagious disease would infect about half of American population that are unnecessarily overwhelmed and frightened by American people.

He said that the United States response, including actions by the federal government and the public, would prevent the infection rate from reaching such levels.

The only way coronavirus would infect about half the population is if people do nothing and “all Americans do something,” he said.

His comments came during the coronavirus daily press release in the White House.

She said:

[T] hose projections … implying that 60 percent or 50% of the population would become infected, I want to be clear. The only way that happens is for this virus to keep moving through populations in this cycle, and the drop cycle, and another cycle.

So, these are the three cycles of doing nothing. … You can reach those numbers if you have zero controls and you do nothing. And we know every American does something.

“I think the numbers [infection rate] that have been given out are really scary to the people,” said Dr. Birx.

Some news outlets have suggested that the infection rate in the United States will be 70% of the US population, while others place it at around 50%.
