WASHINGTON – The US House of Representatives has officially passed a decision to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
The decision was taken largely in terms of party politics with 228 votes to 193.
When President Nancy Pelosi signed copies of the articles, she was accompanied by a team of democratic lawmakers who will follow up the case against the president.
The House of Representatives sued President Trump last month, and it is now up to the Senate to decide whether to condemn and dismiss him.
At a press conference prior to signing the article, Pelosi said: “Today we will make history. If managers walk down the hall, we will cross the threshold of history and initiate impeachment proceedings against the President of the United States of America. Abuse of power and disability.”
The articles were forwarded to the Senate, where Republican Senate chairman McCccell said they would be issued on Thursday at 12 noon, followed by a reading on the floor of the upper chamber.
He said the process would start on Tuesday.
