LAPD Releases Body Camera Video of Downtown Los Angeles Officer Shootout

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Los Angeles police released a dramatic body camera video of a shooting involving an officer in downtown Los Angeles.

The shooting took place on December 1 at around 2 am after police responded to a call regarding a “man with a gun” in the area of 7th and San Pedro streets.

Police said the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Lonyea Marquis Calloway, pointed a gun at a passerby.

Calloway took off when the police arrived and shots were fired after the suspect allegedly ran towards the police when rescue units arrived, police said.

“On the ground!” an officer is heard screaming in the video before firing.

The suspect and the officers were not injured.

The officers say they recovered a .38 caliber revolver and arrested the suspect without incident.

Calloway faces two counts of assault with a lethal weapon with a gun on a peace officer.
